Cosmetic Treatments in Vietnam for Overseas Vietnamese

Short answer: If you are flying home to Vietnam for Tết (Lunar New Year falls on Saturday 6 February 2027) and staying only two to three weeks, the deciding factor is not price — it is your calendar. Based on recovery timelines already published on lonaskinlab.com: swelling and bruising after dermal filler usually subside noticeably within the first few days and settle over roughly one to two weeks; after laser treatment the skin is red and hot for the first 24–72 hours and flaking completes in about 5–7 days; after microneedling the skin returns to normal in about one to two weeks; a superficial peel is red for a few hours to one day and flakes for 2–5 days. In practice: anything with a flaking phase should be done in the first days of your trip, never close to your departure flight. Lona Skin Lab is a licensed dermatology clinic at 2 Dinh Cong Trang Street, Xuan Khanh Ward, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City, Vietnam, operating licence 735/CT-GPHĐ, phone +84 777 679 902 and +84 932 927 723, email Contact@lona.vn.

Medical notice: This is general health information and does not replace a consultation. Dermal fillers, botulinum toxin, laser, microneedling, chemical peels and mesotherapy are all medical procedures. In Vietnam they may only be prescribed and performed by a doctor holding a valid practising certificate, at a licensed facility. Every timeframe below is a commonly reported range published on this website, not a promise for your individual case.

Why this page exists

If you live in the United States, Australia, Canada, Korea, Japan, Germany or the Czech Republic, you are making this decision without the thing everyone in Vietnam has: a friend who already went there. You cannot drop by to look at the clinic. You cannot come back next week if something is not right.

So this page gives you the three things you actually need before you book a flight: the recovery timelines, so you can plan backwards from your departure date; how to verify a doctor, a clinic and a product before you consent; and what to do if something goes wrong after you have already flown home.

This website has one article addressed to patients who live far away. It puts the situation plainly: “Many Lona clients only return to Vietnam a few times a year. If you want to make the most of a short stay, book a consultation early so the doctor can assess your skin and tell you what is feasible within the time you have.” And, importantly: “some procedures should not be done when you are about to board a flight or cannot come back for follow-up.”

Recovery timeline table

Every figure below is taken from articles already published on lonaskinlab.com, with the source linked in the last column. Where this website has not published a specific figure, the cell says so rather than showing an invented number.

Procedure Swelling / redness / flaking resolves in When you can fly When you photograph well Source (in Vietnamese)
Dermal filler (general) Swelling and bruising reduce noticeably in the first few days and usually settle over roughly one to two weeks; lips and the eye area may take longer Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Once swelling has fully subsided; the doctor assesses at the follow-up visit Tiêm filler bao lâu thì hết sưng
Lip filler Most people need roughly a few weeks for swelling to resolve and the filler to settle into its final shape; the first 24–48 hours are the swelling and bruising management window Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Once the filler has settled, after a few weeks Tiêm filler bao lâu thì vào form
Chin filler Mild swelling for a few days; a firm or tight sensation usually eases over a few days to a few weeks Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight The contour settles as swelling resolves Tiêm filler cằm bị cứng bao lâu
Botulinum toxin, wrinkle treatment No flaking phase reported on this website; the effect on dynamic wrinkles is usually clearly visible after a few days and lasts for months (commonly cited as 3–4 months, with some sources citing 3–6 months for the face) Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight From the point the effect is visible, a few days after treatment Tiêm botox giữ được bao lâu
Botulinum toxin, jaw slimming Change is not immediate: usually first noticeable after a few weeks and needs more time to become clearer Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight After several weeks — usually once you are already back abroad Tiêm botox gọn hàm bao lâu thì gọn
Laser with a flaking phase First 24–72 hours: redness, heat, a sunburn-like burning sensation. Next 2–3 days: calms down but still dry with light flaking. Days 5–7: flaking completes naturally Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight After flaking finishes, from around day 5–7; results become clearer after 2–3 weeks Sau khi bắn laser bao lâu thì hết thâm
Laser for melasma Melasma usually does not disappear completely; patches fade over several weeks to a few months depending on type, pigment depth and sun protection, and it recurs easily Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Noticeable improvement often after 2–3 weeks; closer to full improvement within 1–2 months; overall range cited is 3 weeks to 2 months Bắn laser trị nám bao lâu thì hết
Microneedling Red and swollen like mild sunburn for the first few days, then dry with light flaking, returning to normal in about one to two weeks Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Surface redness and flaking clear in about one to two weeks; smoother skin from collagen remodelling takes many weeks to a few months Sau lăn kim bao lâu da trở lại bình thường
Superficial peel (AHA/BHA, light retinoid) Redness: a few hours to 1 day. Flaking: 2–5 days Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Usually looks better from day 5–10; clearly assessable at 2–4 weeks; pigment improvement at 4–8 weeks Peel da bao lâu thì đẹp
Medium-depth peel Redness: 2–5 days. Flaking: 5–10 days Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Around weeks 2–4; 6–12 weeks for pigment and fine lines Peel da bao lâu thì đẹp
Deep peel Long downtime: redness, swelling and flaking lasting more than 2 weeks Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Several weeks to several months; 3–6 months as collagen remodels Peel da bao lâu thì đẹp
Rejuran Skin is usually red, slightly swollen with small bumps for the first few days Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Rejuran có đau không
Mesotherapy No specific figure published on this website Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Liệu pháp meso
HIFU This website states explicitly that there is no fixed interval that applies to everyone Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight HIFU bao lâu làm 1 lần
Facial fat grafting Swelling reduces along the course the surgeon explains; swelling persisting beyond 3 months is a sign to be reassessed Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Lona recommends at least 2 weeks before your flight Cấy mỡ mặt bao lâu hết sưng

Why the “when you can fly” column has no numbers

This is where we choose accuracy over convenience. lonaskinlab.com has never published a specific number of days for flying after a procedure. The only published statement, in the aftercare article Tiêm filler kiêng gì, is a general instruction to postpone “flying or deep diving immediately after the procedure if your doctor has given you a specific note”.

If another website tells you confidently that “you can fly 48 hours after filler”, ask where that number comes from. The decision depends on the area treated, the product, the volume used, how your own swelling behaves, and how long your flight is. That is a judgement made by the doctor who treated you.

How to use the table instead: ignore the flight column. Look at the “swelling / redness / flaking resolves in” column, take the longest figure for the procedure you want, add a few buffer days, and count backwards from your departure date. That gives you the latest date you should book. Then give your exact flight date to the doctor at the consultation and let them confirm.

Sample itineraries: 7, 14 and 21 days

These are planning frameworks built from the timelines above. They are not treatment plans — what you can actually have done is decided by the doctor after examining you.

A 7-day trip

Seven days is not enough for anything with a flaking phase. A superficial peel flakes for 2–5 days, laser flaking completes at 5–7 days, microneedling needs about one to two weeks — all three risk landing on the day you go to the airport.

  • Days 1–2: Dermatology consultation. This is the single most valuable thing you can do on a short trip — the doctor identifies the actual problem instead of you guessing from photographs, and plans your future trips.
  • Days 2–3: Whatever the doctor considers appropriate for the time remaining. Botulinum toxin for wrinkles may be considered, since the effect is usually visible after a few days and this website reports no flaking phase — but it still requires a prescription and the doctor’s decision.
  • Days 4–6: Keep free for monitoring. If anything is unusual, you are still in Vietnam.
  • Day 7: Fly.
  • Postpone to a future trip: laser with flaking, medium or deep peels, microneedling, and anything needing follow-up within weeks.

A 14-day trip — the most common case

  • Day 1: Consultation. State your departure date in this first conversation.
  • Days 1–3: Procedures with a flaking phase, if indicated. A superficial peel flaking 2–5 days finishes before day 8; laser flaking 5–7 days finishes before day 10.
  • Days 5–8: Recovery. This website advises avoiding AHA/BHA products and high-alcohol products for 3–5 days after laser, and seeing the doctor if skin damage has not improved after 7 days.
  • Days 8–11: Follow-up visit. This is the real reason to treat early — you are still in the country when the doctor needs to look again.
  • Days 12–14: Skin stable, photographs, departure.
  • Think twice about: lip filler, since most people need roughly a few weeks for it to settle — meaning you would fly home before it reaches its final shape.

A 21-day trip

  • Day 1: Consultation and full plan for the trip.
  • Days 1–4: First intervention, prioritising anything with a flaking phase.
  • Days 8–12: Follow-up. If the doctor judges recovery satisfactory and indicates a second step, this is the window. Note the published aftercare advice to postpone “other procedures on the same area of skin (peels, laser, facial treatments involving massage) until the doctor agrees”.
  • Days 14–18: Recovery and monitoring.
  • Days 19–21: Final review before flying, home-care instructions, and agreed contact arrangements for once you are back.

One caution, quoted directly from this website: “Patients who live far away often want to do as much as possible in a single trip. Lona’s experience is the opposite: skin needs time, and a home routine done consistently every day matters more than cramming several procedures into a few days.”

How to verify the doctor, the clinic and the product

You are choosing a medical facility from the other side of the world. Verify with documents, not impressions. The article Bác sĩ tiêm filler: chọn ai states plainly: “You can check the facility licence and the practising certificate yourself before agreeing to be injected.”

1. The person injecting must be a doctor with a valid practising certificate

Published requirement: minimally invasive injection procedures using pharmaceutical agents must be carried out in a licensed medical facility with aesthetic specialty scope or equivalent, under a clearly designated doctor responsible for clinical matters, and the person performing the procedure must hold a valid practising certificate. Ask, in writing: who exactly will inject me, what is their specialty, how long have they practised, and do they have experience with the area I want treated.

2. The clinic must hold an operating licence with the right scope

Ask for the licence number. Lona Skin Lab publishes its licence number, 735/CT-GPHĐ, throughout its clinical articles. When you arrive, the licence is normally displayed at the facility — look at it, and check that the name matches the signage and your invoice.

3. The product must have a Vietnamese registration or marketing authorisation number

This requirement is repeated in almost every filler and botulinum toxin article on this website. Before the needle touches your skin:

  • Ask to see the sealed box and read the product name and manufacturer.
  • Check the import label, batch number and expiry date.
  • Ask for the box to be opened in front of you. This is a reasonable request.
  • Photograph the box, label, batch number and expiry. If you ever need to be seen by a doctor abroad, these photographs are the only thing that will answer “what were you injected with?”

4. The clinic must have a complication management protocol on site

Published guidance: the practitioner “must know how to manage complications for each type of filler, with systematic protocols for vascular occlusion, infection and other complications”, and you should check that “the facility has the medications, instruments and a plan for managing an adverse event”. Ask directly. “We have never had a case, so it is not a concern” is not an answer.

And one sentence worth reading twice, quoted from this website: “When a doctor follows safe practice, the risk of serious complications is reduced but it is not zero.”

If something goes wrong after you have flown home

This is the real fear, and it deserves a real answer.

Complication timing

From Tiêm filler sau bao lâu thì biến chứng: complications may appear immediately (within minutes or hours), early (a few days to a few weeks), or late (many weeks, many months, sometimes longer). The “late” window falls entirely after you have flown home. The “early” window straddles your departure date.

Signs that require medical attention wherever you are

  • After filler: rapidly increasing swelling, severe pain, skin colour change, blurred vision, swelling with increasing pain or fever, or a lump that persists, enlarges, becomes painful, red or hot.
  • After a peel: widespread intense redness, burning that increases rather than decreases after 24–48 hours, facial swelling, or persistent pain.
  • After laser: skin damage that has not improved after 7 days.
  • After botulinum toxin: eyelid droop, facial asymmetry, or any unexpected change in muscle movement.
  • General: redness, swelling, pain or blistering after a procedure, or a skin problem that is not improving.

The three-step response

  1. Get examined locally. Immediately. Go to a clinic or emergency service where you live. Do not wait for a reply from Vietnam. Timing matters, and only someone examining you in person can act.
  2. Contact the clinic that treated you, in parallel. Email with photographs of the current condition, the treatment date, the product used, and a day-by-day description. The purpose is not remote treatment — it is to give your treating doctor accurate information about what was placed in your skin.
  3. Connect the two. Ask the Vietnamese clinic for a written summary of the procedure to hand to the doctor treating you.

What to carry home in your file

Before you leave Vietnam, save to your phone and print: the full product name with photographs of the box, label, batch and expiry; the volume used and the areas treated; the treatment date; the name of the treating doctor and the clinic; the clinic’s licence number and full address; international-format phone numbers and email; your invoice; photographs of your skin before, immediately after, and on your departure day; and all written aftercare instructions.

What remote follow-up can and cannot do

Can: this website states that Lona supports online consultation on cosmetic routines — “you can send photographs and describe how your skin feels so that products can be adjusted when needed”. Home care — cleansing, moisturising, sun protection, targeted products — can genuinely be managed remotely.

Cannot: from the same article — “unusual signs, or changes to medication or procedures, require an in-person examination by a doctor”, and “diagnosis of skin conditions and prescribing procedures require an in-person examination”. Messaging Vietnam is a support step, never a treatment step. Be cautious of anyone who tells you otherwise.

Prices

Lona Skin Lab publishes a price list in Vietnamese dong on its Bảng giá (price list) page. Selected published figures, per session:

Service Listed price (VND, per session)

Botulinum toxin — glabellar (frown) lines 4,000,000

Mesotherapy — B.A.P full rejuvenation Pro/Super 14,000,000

Dermal filler is deliberately not priced. The published position, from Phân tích giá tiêm filler, is that “there is no single figure for filler pricing: cost depends on the product, the area, the volume the doctor prescribes after examination, the injector and the facility. An accurate quotation is only available after a consultation at a licensed facility.”

We do not publish US, Australian or Canadian prices. Lona Skin Lab practises in Can Tho, Vietnam. We hold no verified price data for clinics in California, Sydney or Toronto, and we will not reprint unverified figures so that a comparison table looks good. This is medical content that someone abroad, with nobody to cross-check against, may act on.

How to compare properly instead: decide exactly which area you want treated; get a quotation where you live for that same area, asking what unit it is priced in, whether consultation and follow-up are included, and how complications would be charged; take the Vietnamese figure from the table above, or request an estimate for filler; convert at the exchange rate on the day you read this, not a rate quoted in an old article; then add the real costs on the Vietnam side — consultation and follow-up fees, domestic travel if your family is not in Can Tho, the days of your trip consumed by recovery, and the possible cost of being seen by a doctor where you live if there is a problem.

How far in advance to book

This website does not state a required lead time; its published advice is simply to “book a consultation early”. Practically: get in touch before you finalise your ticket, or at minimum as soon as you have your dates. The doctor cannot tell you what is feasible without knowing how many days you have, a two-stage plan may depend entirely on that number, and the weeks before Tết are peak season for every dermatology clinic in Vietnam.

When you write, include four things to save a round trip: your arrival date in Vietnam, your departure date, the skin concern you want addressed, and photographs taken in natural light without filters.
